Morning and Evening Skincare Routine
Giving myself a skincare routine has been one of the best things I have done in the past few weeks. I used to struggle with cystic acne breakouts and super dry skin but now I have pretty much overcome that. My routine is pretty simple, but it wasn’t so in the beginning. Finding your skincare takes trial and error and LOTS of patience. I cannot stress that enough! Start simple and get into the habit of doing certain skin care on certain days, masks on Mondays for example.
I work at a daycare and my hours vary. Sometimes I have to be in at 7am sometimes 1pm. Regardless of the time I try to be awake at 6:30am. It also helps that I live 10 minutes away! One of the first things I do when I get up is rinse my face with water and pat dry with a towel. Once my face is completely dry I will apply my moisturizer. My favorite moisturizer is the Renewed Hope in a Jar by Philosophy. This stuff smells so good and a little goes a long way. I normally use a dime sized amount. It has not caused me to break out even with my sensitive acne prone skin, in fact it has helped my acne tremendously. I have been applying it for a few months now and I have nothing bad to say about it.
After I have a fresh face I will gather my laptop, phone, planner, along with chargers and head to the living room. Breakfast and Pinterest soon follow. My morning routine is super simple when it comes to skin care. Something that I have come to realize is that less really is more, especially when it comes to your skin.
My evening routine is not as simple, yet not hard at all. Before bed I remove my makeup with the Garnier Micellar Water (blue lid.) I have found it works best with round cotton pads. I wear a lot of mascara so I let it sit on my eyes for a few seconds to minimize scrubbing which can lead to damaging your eyelashes. Normally one pad for each eye and one for my entire face works well. The Micellar water doesn’t leave a greasy feeling behind and it also doesn’t dry my skin out. It states on the bottle that rinsing is not required but I will normally wet my face and dry it completely before moving on.
The next step is what helped get rid of my cystic acne. After shaking the bottle, I take a clean cotton pad and pour a little of the Clinique Acne Solutions Clarifying Lotion. It states in the name that it is a lotion but it is not. I do have sensitive skin and this stuff did burn the first few times I used it. However I noticed results right away and continued usage. I say burning but it was more of a stinging feeling where the acne was. It wasn’t something that hurt or was unbearable.
After the Clinique lotion dries completely I will apply my Renewed Hope in a Jar moisturizer. Except I double the normal amount to sorta act as a nighttime deep moisturizing mask. So far it has worked and my dry skin is not as bad as it used to be. When I wake up my skin is so soft and looks amazing.
Having a routine has made my skin care so much easier and less time consuming. Sometimes I will do a mask before bed such as the Loreal mud mask. It always makes my skin look so bright the next morning! Feel free to add your favorite skin care products and how they have helped your issue, whether it be acne, dryness or oiliness.
